CAMTO, May 23. Algeria has signed a contract with Russia for the purchase of four patrol ships of the far sea zone of the modular type project 22160, which are being built at JSC Zelenodolsky Plant named after AM Gorky.
According to the blog Africanmilitaryblog.com, the contract was signed on May 14, the total value of the agreement was $ 180 million. The first ship is scheduled to be handed over to the customer in September 2018, the remaining ship is for the next several years.

As noted, the Algerian fleet decided to purchase Russian ships as a result of their deployment in Syria.
While official information on the fact of the contract was not published in the press, however, in an explanatory note published a month ago to the annual accounting report of JSC Zelenodolsky Plant named after A.Gorky in 2017, the fact of participation in the Algerian tender with a ship of this type was confirmed.
In particular, it was informed about the decision of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation No. 17/03 / 09-440 of 18 July 2017 on the construction of four patrol ships of Project 22160 with the 3M-54TE strike complex (the Caliber-NKE family) and the Palma anti-aircraft missile system with two modules of SOS "Pine" for foreign customer 012 (Algeria). According to the tender requirements, the first ship should be built in Russia, the remaining three - at the foreign customer's shipyard.
Documentation for the construction of ships was sent to Rosoboronexport JSC on August 18, 2017. At the request of the services of Rosoboronexport JSC, the plant promptly provided the necessary materials for the preparation of the tender offer. These materials were submitted to Algeria on November 15, 2017, on the tender offer. The time for consideration and decision-making is February 2018.
Project 22160 is a patrol ship of the modular type of the far sea zone. Ships are being built at JSC "Zelenodolsky Plant named after AM Gorky" to replenish the naval staff of the Russian Navy.
The ships of Project 22160 are intended for carrying out the border patrol service for the protection of territorial waters, patrolling the 200-mile exclusive economic zone in open and closed seas, suppressing smuggling and piracy, searching for and assisting victims of marine accidents, environmental monitoring of the environment, escort of ships and ships on the sea crossing, as well as the protection of naval bases and water areas.
Six patrol ships of project 22160, which until 2020 should replenish the Russian Navy, will be equipped with 3M-54 missile systems (the Caliber-NK family). Now the ships are being built for the Black Sea Fleet.
Project 22160 is distinguished by its good autonomy and seaworthiness. At a displacement of about 2000 tons, it has the same seaworthiness as the twice larger frigate of Project 11356. The ship is equipped with a helicopter pad and a hangar for one Ka-27 helicopter.
